Friday Stuph for 4-17-2026

It’s Friday for those who celebrate. May you enjoy the day!

Last week I had the pleasure of sharing some stuff at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. The video is here for you to peruse should you be so inclined. My feelings won’t be hurt if you say, “Mmm, no.” But since this is my blog thingy I get to post what I want.

Today is the calm between the storms. Earlier this week we’ve had temps way above normal and thunderstorms to go along with that. Tomorrow we’re expeAmcting a change that will take us back to February. There may be snow on Monday. Welcome to Spring in Northern Ohio!

Am currently working on Bible study stuff for Sunday morning. We’re looking at something called Deuteronomic History. Yeah, I know, right? That’s a real thing. I mentioned to my wife that this really difficult stuff. She asked if it was really that hard or was I making it that hard. Truthfully, I’m making it hard. It’s not the material that’s hard. I am fluent in Theologian-speak. What’s difficult is gleaning the stuff that is important for regular people in the pew. And how to present it in a way that can be grasped by your everyday, regular non-theologian. The folks who study this stuff and write about it are scholars with advanced degrees who really like to talk to each other. They fight and argue. It’s really one of my favorite spectator sports. They don’t communicate in ways that are easily understood outside of their closed community. So, people like me need to take what they say and translate it into normal language. That’s what’s hard.

A bit over a week ago I was asked to go to an assisted living place and play country songs for the residents on the second floor. It was a special evening of celebrating everything cowboy and hillbilly. I did a set that included songs by Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. I met Dolly Parton and the Rhinestone Cowboy. We hooted and hollered in true Hoe Down style. It was a treat for me to be able to bring joy to these folks and share a bit of my life with them.

Me ‘n Dolly

Well, I should probably get back to work. Got lots to get done today.
